FIVE THINGS I WISH I DIDN'T DO AS AN UNDERGRADUATE...
FIVE THINGS I WISH I DIDN'T DO AS AN UNDERGRADUATE.
#MYGISTCORNER
Hello guys, so remember i said i am going to be talking about myself sometimes on this blogging journey in my welcome post .well today is one of those days. I hope you enjoy this one.
So i was thinking back on my school days(university)you know back in the days when women were ladies😜✌..Haha...i had so many stuff to laugh about, so many things i was thankful for, friends, results, courses, church, fellowship, outing/parties, roomates, e.t.c. and there were a number of things i regret not doing, or rather opportunities i regret not maximizing. So keep reading as i share my experience with you guys....
By the way this is just to inspire someone (particularly an undergraduate, a fresh graduate or a jambite)to get better or make adjustments, it is not to have you looking at me like some depressed graduate regretting her past(lol..i am not o) so please be thankful for the elderly advice😀 and read to the bottom biko.
So here is my #5TIWIDDAAUG
Get Intimidated:
This was the first of the major problems i experienced in school, actually i can proudly say i attended one of the best schools in Nigeria(fill that space yourself), Ranking or no ranking its a fact, so you can imagine the level of competition there was, it was mad trust me. So i got to school and everybody was forming serious bookworm, mentioning how they had read topic 5 when i was probably still battling with topic 1, egbami i started questioning my life if i was a serious student atall, getting frustrated, feeling extremely worked up, scary talks about Tsunami and Erosion (if you know, you know), Inshort tutorials could not help my disarrayed system, i would always feel worse than better after every tutorial. And i couldn't even find someone to ginger boldness back into my system, Nigga i was raw scared. But guess what, after a while, i found out i had just been stressing myself unecessarily, many of this overzealous readers had not read shit, yes they might have glanced through(note my word, glanced through, so they have an idea) all the topics for the syllabus, but that doesn't mean they knew it already, they were also just trying to keep guard of themselves so as to finish well. So my dear, please study hard but don't die, read what you have been taught before focusing on what people are saying.Pray and trust that God hears you, find calm headed people and ask questions when you are in doubt, but never ever by intimidated by your estimation of how much others have read, believe in yourself.(By the way i got over this in 1st semester year 1).
Being a snob:
Truth be told this attitude was borne unconciously, now listen, everyone of us tend to be defensive about the things we do, the person we are at one point in time or the other. After i saw that most people were living in a different zone other than mine(relating to the first point), I started being defensive, like why are they all nerdy, why are they all acting over righteous, why are they trying to make me look unserious... in my defense, i gave the i don't care attitude, i am different from you vibe, lol, who was i deceiving, even i couldn't figure out myself yet. So i was more unfriendly than usual, more uptight, more nasty, and every more you can think of.
So my advice on this, never be a snob, i know for some of us it is inherent, we have it in us, but trust me it can be worked on(I will write on the process when i stop being one completely), if not worked on, it destroys your relationship with people, you connect badly, you send a wrong message across, they can't read your mind, so they judge you based on how you present yourself. Not forgetting your relationship with people goes a long way in determining how far you go in some Facets of life. Now don't get me wrong, i am not saying you should go about acting all overly pleasant and nice, just be modest, respect people, value them, don't acknowledge them in a condescending manner, appreciate them and yet be yourself.
Hide my talents:
yeah this is one of the things i did as an undergraduate, naturally we were all created with certain talents, for some its one major talent and they are perfect at it, for some ,many random talent, but just good at a few, for some, many random talents and perfect at none, but y'know what, its all good for everybody. The no talent mosttimes end up being the best talent, because the very talented or the moderately talented hide theirs, see, denying ur talent is not humility it is foolishness. You can speak impressively in public but you won't, you can dance or sing, but you are forming. Nobody pays/recognizes you for attendance or being present, but rather for your participation. So please be all you can be, sing if you can sing, speak if you can speak, draw if you can, blog if you can, don't just hide that awesome talent you have. You can only get better.
Stay idle
I know you are wondering right now, but you were busy in school, how can you say you were idle, the truth is you would always be busy everyday of your life, sometimes busy doing something ,other times busy doing nothing. No matter how busy i was i would have really loved to learn a skill, not neccessarily for business, it could just be for the fun of it, or just to acquire more knowledge, could be an instrument, art, makeup, anything. I miss not learning something back at school, but the good thing about life is, its never to late to start, its just better if you start early enough.
Avoid my crush:
I bet 99.9% of normal teenagers and youth are usually attracted to a person(opposite sex) at one point or the other, feeling all the mushy belly butterflies, crazy heart thumping and stomach zoos and all. But we are expected to handle such situations as maturedly and wisely as much as we can.
So I found myself in this crushy situation, sometime around my 2nd/3rd year. The dude seemed so fresh and unapproachable, we took some classes together, i used to try to look my best on those days, then my crush will sit close to me and i will give him attitude all through the class o, even i can't remember the point i was trying to make. So those years went by and nothing happened. But really, things could have been different if i had been nicer, by different i don't mean dating him, we could have been friends, i could have figured i didn't like him so well, He might not even be so smart or responsible, you don't know unless you talk.
My point here is you have more important stuff to do with your life than worry about a crush, so if you can't get over it, have a normal conversation with the person and see how it turns out. But note Dating is not always the best solution to a crush.
So that would be all for today, i don't know exactly what you would have liked to see, maybe regrets like schorlaship opportunities, internships, professional courses, and the likes, but i believe everything i have mentioned revolves one way or the other around those not mentioned. I really hope you were able to pick out one or two important stuff from this, you can share experiences with me if you wish to. Kindly drop comments if you have any. Thanks for reading through.
