THE NIGERIA WE LIVE IN
Are Nigerians mad?
Buzz, guzz all the uzzz, pings and beep on my phone, hey check this out( a video link) it will wow you. Now I'm super excited to watch this so called super video, I almost hit my foot. If its a gist from bae it must be worth it.
It takes a million years for this video to load and I keep refreshing and refreshing until there is a breakthrough.
Gbam! and then its playing.
A white guy speaking incantations in Yoruba Language.
That's it?
Chill that's it????!
Now let's understand the facts
He can speak a language different from his native language and he can buy stuff in the market place.
Mehn I speak Yoruba , English ,semi Hausa , and semi French, yet I don't see any of my videos going viral on the net.
He does this and we treat him like a king, we do this in English and everybody sees it as normal, in short we better have a TEF/ IElTS certificate to provide if need be for us to visit them.
But why blame them anyways, even our own country requests proof of English proficiency from a higher institution graduate.
You should see what its like when a Korean speaks in English. He's a king!.
But for us,Its not even our native language, yet we excel so much at it. Did i say so much??? Nah, i mean too much.
I am of the opinion that the Britt's didn't just colonise us and grant us independence, there is still a strong hold on our intellect and minds. Even our subconscious can not shake that feeling off that Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo is as much of a language as English.
If not, what happened to naming our products in our native language (lol, I know I'm also sitting on this table I'm shaking)like arewa facials, amaradan designs, ogi industry, itesiwaju school, nnkan idunu game house, kikiki you know they are fine names , rather than the usual product poshest beauty, famous wonder game house e.t.c.I guess I can give great kudos to the likes of asoebibella, and the likes for their native originality.
Please don't even say I am contradicting myself by writing in English, it cos I want y'all to be able to read it and understand.
Actually the sad part in all of this is that our colonised minds/ideologies are working where its not even needed. We use it to bring ourselves down, disrespect ourselves, we use it to slander, segregate and oppress.
Energies like this should be redirected to more positive stuff such as politics, serving Justice, standing up for people, practicing respect, giving honour, appreciating our own people, language, ethics, speaking the truth, applauding our achievements and giving back to those around us.
At the end of the day, this is not to slam, just expressions and thoughts, maybe not properly synergized, but its out here anyways , pick a little ,use a little and see the world change day by day.
So really we are not mad, we are just...Nigerians.
